WHO IS A CANDIDATE?

Qualifications for Bariatric Surgery

BMI > 35 , regardless of presence, absence, or severity of comorbidities

BMI >30 with Type II diabetes (T2DM)

BMI of 30– 34.9 who do not achieve substantial or durable weight loss or co-morbidity improvement using nonsurgical methods

Type II diabetes (T2DM), hypertension, sleep apnea and other respiratory disorders, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, osteoarthritis, lipid abnormalities, gastrointestinal disorders, or heart disease

Identified by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) & International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity Metabolic Disorders (IFSO)
